Tems, a Nigerian artist who specializes in Afrobeats and R&B, has been nominated for the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in 2022.
In the Global Music Star category, the artist that was featured on Wizid’s global smash “Essence” was nominated alongside Adele (UK), Camilo (Colombia), Tones and I (Australia), BTS (South Korea), Rosala (Spain), and Olivia Rodrigo (US).
Miranda Cosgrove of iCarly and four-time Super Bowl champion Rob Gronkowski will also co-host the show.
“The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards has always been such a fantastic show with gobs of energy, superstars, and, of course, a lot of slimes,” remarked Cosgrove. “Nickelodeon has always been my family, and I’m looking forward to co-hosting this classic show with Gronk.”
The 2022 Kids’ Choice Awards will be held in Santa Monica, California on April 9, 2022.
“Tems reminds us why we embarked on a mission to rethink, redefine, and rebrand Africa,” Monde Twala, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Paramount in Africa, said.
“We have always thought that African creatives like Tems have the power to put the continent on the map, and we’re pleased to see their vision come to life,” said Georginah Machiridza, Executive Head Content Strategy & 3rd Party Channels at MultiChoice.
Her nomination for Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards as Worldwide Music Star demonstrates that African creatives have what it takes to compete on a global platform and, more significantly, to share African tales with the world through music.
“We’re delighted to be a part of this by providing a venue for creative expression, and we wish Tems the best of luck at the awards.”
The website for the Kids’ Choice Awards is now available for voting. Finally, Nickelodeon, TeenNick, Nicktoons, and Nick Jr will air the show.
