Mao Ning’s Regular Press Conference on September 15, 2022

Beijing has urged Washington and NATO to cease creating fictitious opponents on the world stage, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning, according to Russian news agency TASS.

“China has always been dedicated to ensuring global peace, stability, and development.” The concerned party must avoid making false charges and slandering China, as well as fostering confrontation and creating fictitious opponents. “Mao Ning responded to a TASS request for comment on US Permanent Representative to NATO Julianne Smith’s statements.

“[The US] should cease using NATO to preserve its hegemony and promote global turmoil,” she continued. Furthermore, Mao Ning stated that the United States needed to shed its Cold War attitude and strategy of bloc conflict in order to do more to promote global peace and stability.

According to Smith, Washington is concerned that Moscow and Beijing are “sharing a toolkit” of techniques aimed at eroding NATO unity, according to the Financial Times on Tuesday.
