UNIUYO Increases School Fees Despite Unresolved Issues Between ASUU And FG

The management of University of Uyo recently increased the school fees of 2021/2022 session for both new and returning students. The increase in the fees has thrown students in a state of anger and confusion especially as the economic situation of the country is not favourable.

The increase was effected on Tuesday, when the portal was opened for registration. The fees for returning students in some faculties was increased by N500 only while the fees for new students had a couple of zeros added to it.

New students in different faculties are to pay between N70,000-N115,000 as their fees, depending on their courses of study.

Returning students have reacted to the increase by stating that the addition of N500 is not a problem and should not call for any form of riot. Many people insist that if the management had outrageously increased the fees of returning students, the school environment would not have been peaceful as the students would have immediately staged a protest to fight the increase.

New students are left to accept the increase and make payment, regardless of the fact that the issue between the Federal Government and the members of ASUU, which resulted in the 8 months nationwide strike has not yet be resolved.
